  •  I would like to coach, what is the process?

    • During the off season the board will solicit applications (usually in October) and hold interviews for Head Coaches (usually in Nov).
    • Potential coaches are accepted on a contingent basis. Meaning they are not officially the coaches until it is confirmed their player has made the team they applied to coach.
  • Do I have to meet any requirements to coach?
  • Yes, each coach must complete the following prior to coaching. For more information or questions, please reach out to the coaching coordinator.
  • Background screening and Abuse Prevention training via SportsEngine (done every two years)
  • Concussion Class (done yearly online via the CDC website)
  • Babe Ruth Coaching Certification (online class via Human Kinetics website one time only)
  • What if I want to coach but not be a head coach?
    • After evaluations connect with the head coach for your players team and inquire about becoming an assistant coach or a practice helper. In either, there are requirements that have to be met similar to those described in item 2.
  • When & how do I sign up?
  • Typically, early Dec-end of Jan using the link in the publication
  • This is a 2-step process, step 1 is getting your players information for evaluations, step 2 is for collection of payment for the registration fee, this is done AFTER your player has been placed on a team.
  • What happens after signing up?
  • Players will be offered a pre-evaluation clinic; usually one week prior to evaluations
    • Players are required to attend BOTH days of evaluations
    • Players will check in at the registration table, be assigned an evaluations number. New this year (2025), players uniform sizes and preferred number will be documented.
  • What if my player cannot make both days?
      • Communicate with the board via email, phone, or direct Facebook message for alternate options. This is NOT preferred as the alternate evaluation can be much more abbreviated and may not fully demonstrate your players level of play
  • How are evaluations done?
  • Players are divided into age groups and assigned a number (this number will be used to identify the player throughout the process).
  • WABR employs neutral evaluators to score the players while they are completing a series of baseball related exercises.
  • Players are given time to run through the exercises to warm up and become comfortable.
  • Potential coaches are allowed to score however these scores are not official, they are used for their own decision making later during team formation.
  • How are teams formed after evaluations?
  • The neutral evaluators scores are tallied, averaged, and sorted
  • Team Formation Committee will hold a special meeting in which players with scores in the top 8 are assigned to the upper-level team in their division.
  • Neutral evaluator scoresheets are provided for review of the data if needed.
    • Coaches are assigned to a division aligning with their players placement and permitted to select the remaining 4 players for their team.

    • Coaching selections must be within reasonable alignment of the neutral evaluators scores

    • If those selection are not in alignment, appropriate justification must be provided and approved by the Team Formation Committee
    •  When will I know if my player has made a team?
    •  After the Team Formation meeting, teams are published on the website and Facebook. The players are identified by the assigned number from evaluations.
    • Players who did not make a team will be placed in the league pool (with parent/guardian permission).  Areas select players from the league pool to complete gaps in teams in their area, acceptance by the player/parent/guardian to play for the area is needed.

  • My player made a team-now what?
  • New this year (2025) WABR will be hosting a Season Kick Off Meeting where the following events will take place:
  • Board Introduction
  • Review of expected Season Events
  • Opening Ceremonies
  • Closing Ceremonies
  • Team Meetings
  • Team Gear Assignment
